What subjects does Spark Online Academy offer?

What grade levels does Spark Online Academy offer?

Spark Online Academy offers a full curriculum for elementary and middle school students Kindergarten through 8th grade.

What’s the difference between homeschooling and Spark Online Academy?

In homeschooling, parents serve as the primary teachers and are responsible for providing all instructional materials and curriculum. At Spark, students are taught by fully certified and trained teachers who deliver instruction just as they would in a traditional classroom. Students, parents, and teachers work together to ensure success while students study from home. Spark is fully accredited in Colorado and provides official records and transcripts.

Does it cost anything to attend Spark Online Academy?

No. Spark Online Academy is completely tuition-free for eligible Colorado residents.

What happens after my child finishes middle school at Spark?

Spark is the sister school to Achieve Online, our accredited online high school program. When your child completes middle school, there’s a clear, familiar path into grades 9 through 12 already waiting for them.

If I am not part of Colorado Springs School District 11, can I still enroll?

Yes. Spark Online Academy accepts students from outside the district and outside the city. We welcome all eligible residents of Colorado.

Do you need to own a computer to be enrolled in Spark Online Academy?

Yes. Because Spark is an internet-based program, students need consistent access to a computer and reliable internet to complete their coursework.

Does it cost anything to attend Spark Online Academy?

No. Spark Online Academy is completely tuition-free for eligible Colorado residents.

I have been homeschooling. How does Spark determine my child’s grade level?

While age is a primary factor in determining grade placement, Spark staff also use a variety of diagnostic assessments to identify each child’s academic needs and create a personalized learning plan tailored to their success.

Does the program provide textbooks and instructional materials?

While our instruction is primarily online and includes access to e-textbooks and resources, we also provide physical textbooks or materials when assigned by teachers for specific activities or courses.

For our elementary-aged students (K-5th grade) our online curriculum includes additional workbooks.

Do you have real teachers?

Yes. Spark teachers are highly qualified professionals, fully certified by the Colorado Department of Education. They have extensive classroom experience and participate in regular training and professional development to stay current with the latest online education methods and technology.

Does Spark provide options for special needs students?

Yes. Depending on a student’s IEP or 504 plan, we can tailor our curriculum and provide accommodations to meet their unique needs. Please contact us directly to discuss your child’s specific situation.

Does Spark offer training or technology support for parents?

Yes. Throughout the year, Spark offers training sessions to help parents support their students. This is especially important for our younger learners, where a parent or guardian often acts as a learning coach. Parents are also welcome to attend mentoring sessions with their child at the learning center, and our curriculum is designed to be intuitive and parent-friendly.

Does the student receive all instruction on the computer?

Yes. However, our blended curriculum also incorporates textbooks, printed materials, hands-on activities, and manipulatives. For younger students especially, that mix of online and hands-on learning keeps them engaged and supports how they learn best.

Is my child able to work at their own pace?

Spark’s curriculum is designed to be flexible, allowing students to progress at a pace that suits their learning style. Teachers monitor daily progress to ensure each student is on track to achieve a full year’s academic growth within the district’s approved calendar deadlines.

How do students interact socially?

Spark offers multiple opportunities for social interaction. Students are welcome to visit in person with teachers and peers. Our online platform also includes age-appropriate discussion activities to encourage collaboration and communication.
