What’s the difference between homeschooling and Spark Online Academy?

With homeschooling, parents handle all the teaching, curriculum, and materials themselves. Spark is a fully accredited public school program where certified teachers handle instruction and grading. Your child receives all materials and official records to learns from home.

If I’m not part of Colorado Springs School District 11, can my child still enroll?

Yes! Spark welcomes students from anywhere in Colorado, not just within District 11. As long as you’re a Colorado resident, your child is eligible to enroll.

Does Spark provide options for children with special needs?

Yes. Depending on your child’s IEP or 504 plan, we can tailor our curriculum and support to meet their individual needs. To discuss specific accommodations, please reach out by phone or email.

What subjects does Spark offer?

Our curriculum covers core subjects like Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, plus enrichment in Art, Music, and Physical Education.

Does my child do all their learning on the computer?

Not entirely. Our blended approach mixes online lessons with printed materials, hands-on activities, and learning tools. For younger kids especially, that mix of screen and hands-on work helps them stay engaged and learn best.

Can my child work at their own pace?

Yes. Our curriculum is flexible so students can move at a pace that fits their needs. Our students have access to certified teachers, live virtual classes, and self-paced assignments. Families receive ongoing support to create a flexible learning schedule that fits their needs while meeting state attendance, progress requirements, and deadlines.

How involved do I need to be as a parent?

It depends on your child’s age. For younger elementary learners, a parent or guardian acts as a learning coach, helping keep your child on track day to day. Middle schoolers typically work more independently, with teachers guiding instruction and families staying in the loop on progress.

Does it cost anything to attend Spark?

No. Spark Online Academy is completely tuition-free for eligible Colorado residents.
